How could I increase player retention?

So, I just started doing advertisements for my game and for some reason, all players that join just run around randomly, maybe punch a few people, then leave. Its eating at my ad credits.

are these bots? they look like to be real accounts (have good avatars). what could I do to fix this?

My retention is also super low:

(The high spot is when it was mainly friends that played the game)

If I had to take a guess, they’re just not interested in the game. This game competes with the Battleground genre, and so the people who would be interested in this game have alternate options that they’re familiar with.

There’s also no win condition, or visually tracked stats.

Also, side notes from playing the game-

It’s possible to get stun-locked under boxes that respawn, hit you, then bounce off you into the lava, causing the cycle to repeat.

In addition, held items will block the camera and force it to zoom in. Fixing this can be done by making the boxes apart of the Character, or giving them no collision while held

This I am fixing at the moment.

I think that’s kind of just bad luck tbh, I haven’t had this happen to me before.

I’ll try to make the box be transparent and remove collision. I’m doing a lot of things with boxes to make them work better.

I’m also adding:

  • New kits
  • Crates that can give cosmetics (crates are obtained for free)
  • Crates will also be tradable
  • Capture zones that gives a reward to the person who has the most capture points.

Please tell me if there is anything else you think I should add!

Right now, I think it’d be best to just stick on slow improvements and not to overburden yourself, but it sounds like you’ve got a solid plan to improve things.

yeah, I am taking it slow not to overwhelm myself; I have most of the new features done already though.

I just played your game, and it looks basic, looks like it was made within a week.

But since your game is a multiplayer it requires 2 people to play, and when there are not that extra or enough players, all the players would leave, and the game can get boring pretty fast

First off, It wasn’t made in a week. Actually I may have, as I worked on it slowly lol.

But some games are as basic as my game but have more players, so saying something is basic doesn’t mean it won’t prevent it from players.

Alright enough of me complaining, I am heavily working on improving the game and making it better.

The problem with only having one player, what do you think I could do to fix this?

I tried the game and its not bad however, ill tell you from experience since i released a game of the exact same genre like a week ago and a bit and ran ads

your game needs more kits and i mean alot alot more kits over 15 and make the progression ramp up from fast to super slow thats a well known game design thing though already

as for the main subject the retention, I recommend adding bots, its something I wish I did before moving next you can be smart about how you do it but its up to you,

also i would focus more on your lobby and making the game more addicting and also when you jump you glitch into the floor for a second

Well, I only going to add about 5 more kits and be done adding kits. Then I am going to add variants.

Kits are more of play styles (like brawler being a melee character, lunge being a glass canon, etc), then you can get items that will change the kit to your favorite play style.

Example: lunge is all about being aggressive and getting in the enemies face, but maybe instead of the lunge, you get an item that makes you go invisible if you hold still. You are still an ambush character, but in a different way.

I will probably need to do this.

I am adding tons of satisfying effects (better kill sounds, the sound gets better the more kills you get, hit sounds)

I already fixed it, but the patch will roll out in the next update.
