I’m working on a map based on a tropical island, such as Oahu or the Virgin Islands, and while I’ve worked on mountains before, I’ve struggled to make them look detailed. Right now, they appear pretty bland/basic, and I’m not sure what terrain tools to use to detail them. I tried using rocks, but it seems like something from a colder climate.
I’ve attached photos of what my mountains look right now compared to some examples of what I’ve been trying to replicate or go off of.
I would add more than one material to your terrain palette. You’re only using one base grass material and it looks pretty static. It’s not diverse enough!
I would add some tiny patches of rock or ground material and some more grooves to your terrain, since the mountains in your reference photos look very steep and difficult to climb.
Using ROBLOXs’ grass terrain might make your terrain look sharper (if that’s what you’re going for) rather than flat grass.
If you’re planning on adding floral life or better grass patches, I would look into ROBLOXs’ toolbox.
It’s important that you use more than 1 material to create that variation, and if the mountain is going to be very far try to increase the radius of that grass growing because it will seem smaller at distance!
