Hey Robloxians! Iam your average builder Hmota here again.
During the times of covid, me and a friend of mine decided to make a game.
I got a lot of the map setup, when i realized an important part of Game Design… OPEN SPACES
They allow your player to socialize, fight and learn much better. A player who spawns and sees other players performing a particular action, will naturally do the same. It gives them space to see other players and ground to fight on.
Your scenes don’t have a purpose, there is no gutters, people, shops so it creates this phenomenon called a limitation space. This is amplified even more if where you live looks like your map
Could you colaborate on the “gutters” part? By the way, youre right. I build with the reference of the post-soviet Kruschevkas. Theres a lot of them in my country. How do i give my space purpose? Do i play shops and such?
personally I’d say some more imperfect things that give it personality would help a bit. Posters, signs, trash. Even in small amounts it helps make things seem less blurred together.
In your first picture is that a road?
At first glance it looks like a path, but when I saw what looks like a dumpster on the right side I realized it was probably a very narrow road. Try making the roads wider.
Yes, your trees block a lot of your view. Consider making the leaves higher up and much smaller meshes.
Possibly shorten the wall in picture 3 so you can see over it.
I think the reference to gutters by @Diamond_Plus1 means the curbs on the roads. Most roadways have curbs that step up to the sidewalk so water flows into the gutters and drains.
Wider doesn’t mean it feels more spacious, lighting plays a big role. Light up the area, lighter areas are perceived as more open, hence why you feel closed in at night.
