How do farming games (like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley) keep a consistent playerbase?

Hello game designers! I am currently in the process of designing an island-building game similar to Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Islands (if you’re looking for an example on this platform.) I’ve noticed that these games, from an outsider perspective, seem like something you’d play for maybe a month then quit, yet Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing gather hundreds of thousands if not millions of players daily! As someone who hasn’t played many games in this genre since there aren’t any popular ones on Roblox, I was wondering if somebody can tell me what makes these games so addicting that players keep on coming back. Is it a high amount of content like furniture and crops? It is some kind of element of randomness? I have a few minor replayability elements already planned that tie in with our creature-capture elements in this game, but I’d appreciate if someone who plays any of these island-building games could let me know what keeps them coming back!

AC allows you to make basically whatever you want, as well as visit other people’s islands. try something like that.

:thinking:Hmm I thought about allowing visiting islands before, but I didn’t think too deeply about how it could help with replayability. Perhaps adding an option to shop at other’s islands could help boost replayability! Thanks for the help :happy3:
