How do fighting games apply weapons?

So i’ve seen some fighting games where the weapons are also animated with the player. i’ve also played some rpgs where i think the weapons are just tools because they have no animations at all, they just follow the player’s animation.

And I saw a video where they made the weapon a part of the actual player character using motor6D so they can animate the weapon with the player. Do most fighting games with weapons do that? Is it the most effective way to animate weapons (assuming the weapon is always equipped). What if theres a lot of weapons?

Yeah, most games use a paid plugin called moon animator which makes working with motors a lot easier.

Though, If you’re looking to make animations that just move the weapon without moving the character’s limbs, you could make a custom rigs with invisible parts at the end of the character’s arms/hands, and use them as the weapon’s grip.
