How do I Improve Game GUI

Heya there! I’ve been meaning to improve my horror games GUI, since it looks sort of bad, and it ruins ambience. How can I improve it so that it keeps the player immersed but also that the GUI doesn’t look bad?

Feel that the avatar should be replaced with a heart too, as some Player’s avatars pretty much ruin the game’s atmosphere.

How about having some thorns around the GUI? They give a suspenseful effect about the atmosphere of the game.

Totally agree, and the thorn effect doesn’t seem all that awful! Might implement it, thanks for replying!

Also you should move the username a little bit to the left to make the text proportional with the stamina.

First of all, I feel like the UI is too dark, I’d make it a bit lighter so it’s easier to visualize on screen.

Then, besides the idea of a heart-shaped HP indicator and a health bar, it really depends on your game’s mechanics. You could add a timer, a map, a dropdown for perks or for special animations (like crouching, fist-punching, or other in-game animations you might have), a level GUI, an “objectives” UI, a currency indicator (if your game has coins, gems, or anything that you need to collect/gain in order to progress or acquire stuff withing your game), etc.

Those are just a few ideas, but you can definitely get inspiration from them and choose which ones to use or discard depending on your game’s mechanics as I said, or make some of them visible during the round and then the rest once you’re in the lobby/main menu.
