How do I improve the quality of my GFX?

Hey Roblox GFX Artists, I’ve been practicing gfx for a while, and I think I’m pretty decent at it. But there is one problem, I cant seem to make clean and/or sharp renders.

I’ve seen many GFX Artists thumbnails, (i5k, SoftGB, Purpluxe, Tom, e.t.c) and they seem to perfect the quality of the render by making it as sharp as it can get, and really clean. I believe my renders will begin to stand out more if I achieve this as well, but I don’t know how I can turn something as unclear as this:

to something as clean, neat, and sharp as this NOT MINE:

I have tried increasing the size of my camera, from 1280x720 to 1920-1080 or higher, and I have rendered in more samples recently, but I don’t get the same result.

I would like some tips on how I can improve the quality of my renders if you have any. Thanks for reading!

try messing about with the focal length of the camera, I believe this may be what you are going for.
select your camera; go to the object data properties (the camera icon) in the properties window and adjust the focal length to your camera.

I hope I helped you out, let me know if you have any other questions!

Not quite. I am trying to get my renders to be sharp and clean, and I always mess about with the Focal length, no matter what the case is. But thanks for the suggestion!

You need to add some…

Dynamics!

  1. As you see in the good one, there is bright neon. That neon is made IN blender. You should add neon parts and not just import the map. For example, this is one of my uses of lights in a old horror gfx.

If you aren’t already, use Cycles.

  1. You should also add some more variaty to the camera, along with some slight fog to make everything POP. The resolution to the image looks fine, but it feels just bland. Of course, all of this won’t instantly make you good. NEVER be afraid to try something new! Tweak some settings! It never hurts to experiment.

Mess around with these settings. They can really go a long way to make your image look more sharp and clear.

consider your lighting, camera, rendering, posing, shadows, and mood of the gfx, and change everything likewise.

  • The clothing textures are upscaled to make it a higher resolution,
  • The overall image is color corrected (Adjusting Saturation, Contrast, Brightness, Etc.) to make it vibrant and colorful
  • Focal length is lower so you can see more of the map,
  • Rim light (the lighting around the back of the characters) on most of the characters to have them stand out,
  • Adding in bloom/glow to the scene where its neccesary
  • Using the mist pass to give a slight depth

Just doing more of these thumbnails and you will understand how you want it to turn out

Thanks for the suggestions! I do use Cycles when I render my images, and Focal length is a daily feature I use. Depth of Field I am trying to learn, so I will try to get that mastered.
