I made a sword slashing animation from scratch, I don’t like it. I want to know how to Improve it, can anyone help?

The movement is too linear, change the easing style. The should also be some build-up to the swing itself. first, make the arms go backward a little, then the leading slash.

Your main issue is that the swing is linear. In the real world, objects have weight and its impossible to move a sword like that, hence why it looks like doodoofard. What you want to do is have a buildup, like bringing above the shoulder, then exerting alot of force onto the swing, and making the weight match up with the swing

Add what the other people say and add variation. For example, alternate swing sides.

I would suggest adding some manual bounces, this can be done by just moving a keyframe forward, and before the keyframe, rotate it back a bit. MemezyDev’s reply will also help out a lot.

You could also go the lazy route of using Blender, which uses bezier curves for animations, instead of just linear.

Try animating the torso as well as the head. The arms just being animated seems a little unrealistic for today’s standards.

add a bit of inertia in the sword like it slows done at the end a bit and pose the legs and head of the npc.

wouldn’t do this at all because it would ruin the running animation

oh ok then dont but try adding a bit of inertia in it as i mentioned

I think it would fit better on “R15” since it contains more joints than a “R6” rig, making it a bit more smooth and life-like.

set the easing style to quad and easing direction to inout. Also make it a bit faster and a sequence where the player raises the sword

movement is too linear, when you want to want to animate something like a swing, you have to create build up to the swing and then the slash itself.
You can try fixing this by adding a bit of build up animation by bringing the arms up and then doing the swing, also adding secondary movement like the torso also following the movement of the arms to make it look better, right now looks quite static with only the arms moving.

I’ve seen some extremely talented animators who only animate with R6, I don’t think this would really improve it. Not only that, but It would make it more conflict.

If I would move the torso, it would most likely affect the running animation.
