How do I make a proper train station?

You may present your thread how you choose, but you are required to answer the following questions in your thread;

I’m working on a train simulator based on the Long Island Rail Road (One of the most busiest Commuter Rails in North America). I want to make good stations like this:

But I can’t seem to do that. All of them look ugly and I don’t know how I can fix that.

(These stations are not real stations from the LIRR Mainline these are fictional. I also use the trains for proper scaling, the trains in the first 2 pictures are mines, the 3rd one isn’t) I’ve tried to use textures but it still wasn’t enough, I tried looking at tips on YouTube but I already know these tips and they don’t seem that useful, I also tried hiring devs but I can’t because I don’t have a PayPal. (I’m too young to have one, only 13).

Do you have any advice? If so please reply to this post.

Pay attention to smaller details in the image, such as the tiling and size of the tiles, the lighting (USE FUTURE LIGHTING) the roof details, signage etc.

(Note: I’m no expert in building, just expressing my opinion)

1st and 2nd screenshot:

  • Lack of tiles on the floor
  • The ceiling is too high
  • Missing details (most notably signs)
  • The ceiling is oversimplified compared to the reference photos
  • Wrong material of the pillars
  • A more vivid color palette might help (the floor, the tunnel and the pillars are all the same color)
  • Maybe try tweaking the lighting?

3rd screenshot:

  • No reference photo provided so I can’t say much about it, however:
    • You definitely should get that bench replaced with something else
    • The platform is too dark; add more lights
  • Otherwise it looks pretty fine to me

Also it is crucial to keep a consistent level of detail. The light strips and “watch the gap” signs feel out of place when you compare it to the brutal(ist) simplicity of the rest of the station (screenshot 1&2).

There are signs

He’s talking about the signs hanging from the ceiling. There’s tons of detail on the ceiling that just doesn’t exist in your build.
