ive been making some cool avatar renders but dont know where to start doing commissions ive tried the dev forum. ive tried discord servers. i have no idea where to start doing gfx. can someone help?
Make posts here
already did. thats why im aksing here for help because i dont know where to do it.
All I can say is to post a portfolio in the collaboration category on DevForum and include so of you previous work and wait until someone wants to commission you.
I understand you’ve tried on DevForum already but I would think your going to have to wait until someone wants to commission you.
Just keep trying the DevForum, most people use the forum since tons of people are online, and are willing to view certain topics, keep trying your hardest and keep making gfx and at some point someone will offer.
not everything will happen in a few days, give it some time.
@PierceMikyoto You gonna go to categories and you can see the + New Topic and click on it and then select category and done. (There should be collaboration/portfolios on the category)
I know many gfx artists who share their work and accept commissions on Twitter.
i dont use twitter. might post it on reddit though.
Use #collaboration:portfolios but once the Talent Hub is fully released, you can check it out at https://talent.roblox.com and you can put a portfolio there.
i wont be able to use the talent hub. i use the pin code on my account for security so i wont be able to use.
Welcome to the truth and real side of design. Graphic designing on and off-platform is 50% design skills and 50% business skills. No one tells you these things, but the truth is you’re not likely to get a lot of commissions or, well… good pay commissions for a while. I’ve been desiring for 6 years and charge around $175 per commission. But besides that, let us talk about what you’re reading this for profit and marketing your work.
I really could make a whole post regarding this, but I’ll try to summarize how to get yourself out there and to market yourself.
- Getting Clients
The first step into getting a client base or creating a portfolio/commission sheet has worked. When I first started, I offered FREE designs/work. Although that’s not how you make money, it’s a good way to build a client base and traction. It allows you to work a lot more freely and lessen the stress from working with clients.
It is a sacrifice that you may not like, but it can help sometimes. Secondly, you should try to reach out to people looking for your work and people who are not. You can never reach out too much; getting yourself around opens doors that might not even seem there and helps you get connections with people who may know people in need of your type of work.
Offering your services to people is always a way to earn a client base and make money. You can always try joining Discord communities or posting on Twitter, getting your work seen, and becoming a familiar face people remember. I am recognized within a 50,000 member community that knows me, and I do Logo/Brand and UI/UX design. There is always risk and reward; you have to make sure you pick the right risks.
- Researching and Understanding
The design marketplace, just like every other, is very competitive, with a lot of people competing. Being able to stand out and extrude confidence will help you earn more clients, profit, and reputation. Many people don’t see putting years of dedication and learning into something just for it takes years to take off. Several years ago, my prices were around 400 robux, and after learning a lot about business and design, I’ve been able to take it up to a minimum of 50,000 or $175. It’s gonna take process and error to get where you want but put in the effort and care, and you’ll be able to get a flow of income.
- Value and Reality
If you’re struggling to get clients to commit to you or return to you for more work, in reality, there’s likely someone doing what you’re doing better and cheaper. I am NOT saying to undervalue your work and lower your prices but be real with yourself and look at other designers/artists who you’d consider to be in your skill level and see what they price themselves at, you don’t have to do exactly those prices but being around a range like that can improve your quantity of your clients. I always try to communicate and show interest in my clients and understand them at a personal or social level. Work doesn’t always have to be a professional and formal environment, and realistically, many ROBLOX dev teams don’t work in even close to formal/professional environments. Gaining friends who are designs and friends who are clients can help you branch out and get opportunities you wouldn’t be able to get without their connection. Now don’t be using people but knowing the right people can always help. (If I know someone in need of services of things I know my friends or acquaintances that I appreciate do, I always try to connect them to help them out.) Now, remember this is a competitive and sometimes hostile environment. Make sure you aren’t being used or undervalued;Appreciate your worth and being.
I could go more in-depth, but I can’t expose all the secrets you have to learn yourself. I wish you the best in the design community. Let me know if you need any help.
thanks! ive been doing some free ones for my friends. this info was very useful
