How do I make my art realistic as this?

[removed - It’s a realistic cover of one of the issues of Ghosts of the Future, a Sonic fancomic whose art is really splendid and the creator writes and illustrates for the official Sonic comics; it is not appropriate for children or younger audiences and I think this cover, which is of #14, is inappropriate to depict here]

I just need 2D art tips for better experience and impression to others. And how does this compare to one of my work-in-process art pieces?

Well, all I can say is that ya got a long way to go. If you want tips on better lighting, shading and whatnot I’d suggest subscribing to “Proko” “Sinix Design” and “Marco Bucci”.

There are many art discords where you can get genuine critique to see what’s wrong with your artwork as well.

Here’s my personal playlist of for 2D and 3D art that I’ve collected and foraged over the years!

Some really helpful videos that apply to what you need.

Thanks. I didn’t really expect anyone to reply to this and planned to delete this topic by the end of the day, but welp.

Hey there! Although I am not in any way a master at art, I do have experience. I can see some things in your art that needs work.

  1. Your lighting is a bit inconsistent. There is lighting on the fur above the face, so that implies that the lighting is directly in front of the face, wouldn’t the right and left side of the face have highlights as well? The nose also shouldnt have those highlights there as the hair is blocking the light. Regarding the ears, perhaps add a reddish shadow inside so that it doesn’t look as if its skin, and not the insides of the ears. As for the lighting, whites aren’t really the best for it.
  1. You could experiment using different types of brushes, I can see that you’ve used the same brush for the fur and the eye lashes. Maybe use a more solid one for the eyelashes and the mouth instead?

WOW

I did not expect someone to recreate my art.
Though that looks more stylized than realistic (what I was aiming for in my piece). Also, the blue shadows in my art, while a little unrealistic, is supposed to be a shtick representing Sonic.

FYI: My method of shading art is to “burn” the color with the acrylic brush, smudge it with the same brush, shade in the hair by burning a pixel-size brush, smudging those in, and shade with the pixel brush again.

Haha, it is indeed a bit stylized to my own style, but I think having a better sense of shadows and colors first will definitely quicken your progression on what you’re aiming for. Although I haven’t tried this method yet, perhaps try and recreate a realistic drawing, heck the picture you sent, without using the eye dropper tool.

Anyways, best of luck to your journey. The determined will always get what he wants.
