When I say “old-school”, I’m talking about places which use:
- “Voxel” or “Compatibility” lighting modes
- Decals and textures instead of custom materials
- Use ROBLOX’s built-in materials and parts (instead of smooth plastic cartoony meshes everywhere)
- Generally look like they were built any time from 2010-2016
I’ve seen some utterly stunning places like this, such as the levels in Survive the Disasters 2 and many other old games. How do they give these places such pleasing lighting and colours? ROBLOX’s lighting properties are very complex and difficult to use to their full potential, especially if you don’t resort to the tricks modern games use.
