How do i make these animations look better

So im making a weapon system and im trying to make good reload animations to my guns. They just turn out kinda bad tho.

Here are videos of them.

So could u guys give me any feedback to this? Anything would be helpful.

You could definitely start by making it not so linear and stiff. Most good animations have a little bounce to it. Say at the end of an arm movement it might overshoot the goal and then move back a bit.

btw what should i animate on to get the best results? (roblox animator moon animator or blender)

From personal experience blender allows you to make it look alot smoother and clean, but it has the disadvantage of obviously being third party. So if I were to choose I’d definitely go with blender.

Fore me blender seems kinda confusing. Do u know some good tutorials on how to animate in it?

Not really, but just searching it up will usually find you a good tutorial.

Ok, ill learn how to use it and mayb the results will be better. Thx for advice!

i kinda went with roblox animator again bc moon animator is kinda buggy and blender is just way too confusing to me but is this any better?

Adding more movement to each change of position will make the animation flow better. When it comes to animation, doing more of it and practicing with different types of movement always helps! :slightly_smiling_face:

These animations look great! Good job on them! I think they’re well-made and good! How long did it take to make both of them?

Use references. Look up Roblox reload animations and you’ll find what you need

I’ve been animating for a bit, and I see a lot of animations like yours that all share the same problem:
They’re all linear. (Not that this is a bad thing, but it removes a lot of opportunity to make your animations 1,000,000% better)

A good way to make good animations is too use different easing styles, like cubic, bounce, elastic, etc.

An example of cubic animation:

An example of linear animation:

An example of both animation styles:

I also recommend repositioning the grip of your weapon. A common mistake is to place the gun at a constant position of 25% inside X position, and 25% inside Y position. Place your gun 40% inside on the x, and 35% inside on the y, so that you get a look like this:

A good way to do this easily is to place a cube at the trigger of your weapon, and place the cube directly in the middle of your right arm’s hand:

I hope this rushed tutorial helped you!

This post is kinda old so i learned to animate a bit better. Can u compare this to the original post and tell me how i can improve?

Of course!

The shooting is a lot better, considering there is a better kick|height ratio.

I also like the reload a lot better. It seems a lot more realistic and swift.

Some improvements you could do for the shoot animation is to make the Slide go backwards, and catch your arms.
What I mean be that, is that you don’t want to jerk forward and backward, but more have the slide do it instead, with your arm only following its direction.

This give the shooting a more snappy, gun-like movement. It also adds more power to your weapon.

For the reload, there are a couple things done right, and a couple things done wrong.

What was done right

  • Moving parts
  • No Part Clipping
  • Realistic Timing

What was done wrong
(These aren’t necessarily wrong, but they could be improved)

  • Keyframe spacing
    – The animation goes from slow to fast very quick, making it feel unrealistic
  • Hand Position
    – When you keep your right arm static, it removes an entire other half of the animation
    – Try out different hand positions! Some bullpup weapons use the right arm to reload instead!
  • Visibility
    – Players like seeing the magazine, and slide, and base move around when they reload (Don’t ask me why )
    – Try moving the handle to the outside of the right hand, and moving the magazine to the top of the left hand
  • Snap
    – Add power to every keyframe, so that the player feels like a professional when reloading. For example, add a pause when the player gets the mag under the chamber, and then make them thrust it in (Try adding another tap to the mag to make it look secure!)

I can’t wait to see what you make!
