How do I make this game more skill-based and intense?

Hey guys,
After speaking with people about my game, I concluded that it needs to be more skill-based and intense. Right now it’s just a toss up whether you win or lose.
I want it to be more about skill, strategy, challenge than be luck.
What features can I add or change to reflect that?

Just to clarify, I want the game to be highly competitive and PvP.

‘Boosting’ this topic because this is really vital to my game and I’m at a loss on what to do.

Okay.

What’s the problem.

Terribly sorry that I couldn’t reply! My issue here is that I can’t figure out what to add or change in order to make my game more competitive and skill-based. For example, the high levels of RNG and luck in the game discourage skill and strategy, but if I were to remove them altogether, the game would be dull. I am unsure what skill-based features with a steep learning curve to add to make my game feel more hardcore and strategic. The brickbattle genre is a good example of what I want. You can get in and have fun, but if you choose to get serious, there and hardcore strategies and tricks to use, and you can play at a high level. I want my game to be accessible for those who are just enjoyers, but have a steep learning curve and room for skill and strategy. What features can I add to promote this? (sorry for the ramble)

In short, it’s hard to help you until you explain more about your game–what kind of game is it, how is it played, what can players do, what is the player’s goal, what is meant to be the fun part, what isn’t fun, what affects the experience but players can’t control it.

Maybe try making a skill based matchmaking system?

If you can gain a decent skill metric for each player then you can use that to see how skilled each player is and put them in a server with players of similar skill.

This would require your game be split into a lobby/menu place and game place.

Great idea, I think I’ll go with making ‘15 wins only’ servers and things like that. Brilliant! It’s also desirable that new players can learn from old ones, so I’ll make that a menu to join from a normal server.

It’s a round based arcade-like game where you survive fires in classic ROBLOX maps. There are 7 or so gamemodes and 15 ish maps. Players have their normal character, but with the powers of chain jumping, sprinting, and combinations of the two to create varied moves. The fun part is where you survive the fires and outlast others, strategize and learn about the different maps and gamemodes, gather wins, buy gear for buffs, and get generally better (this is the part I want to encourage, gathering skill and experience, which should make an impact on winning) The bad part is where sometimes is feels too chaotic and crazy, that even skill can’t save you. I want skilled people to have an advantage (maybe with a steep learning curve on a new move), but not win every round.
