Recently, I’ve been motivated with my scripting & building and what to take it up a notch. With this, I would like to create a game, but my questions are how do I think of one? Feel free to leave down any ideas on how this can be achieved.
What I do is think of something that i’m interested in and ill also watch videos of real games or historical events or movies.
Recently I saw a movie called Greyhound great movie its about a destroyer escorting convoy during WWII while at the same time being hunted by a wolfpack of submarines. That movie gave me the idea to build a U-Boat hunter game. But as for myself most of my inspiration is found in movies.
You should brainstorm up lots of stuff and make prototypes. You will not make good games without lots of trying things and failing with some and iterating on what works.
Coming up with something original is awesome thing. However, just like any other business out there, you need to do some researches about your target audience. Else you basically just gamble hoping that someone will like the game.
By taking already successful games as a starting point, it’s quite obvious that the market is there. Of course I don’t suggest to blatantly copying other games, most of the time it will not work anyway. For example change the theme to your liking, make it different. With that much players playing on the game you see as inspiration, I’m pretty sure there are share amount of players that will suit to your theme choice.
Last but not least, sometimes imitating simple game is not as simple as it look. Hard work is the key. Saying is easy but to actually do it is another matter
