How do shadows work?

Hey everyone

Recently I played Pet Simulator 2 and couldn’t help but adore the lighting, the colours are so welcoming and the shadows give the entirety of the game, depth, in its own way.

Now because I was astonished, I tried to replicate some of the lighting, however I couldn’t quite get the shadows right, Pet Simulator 2 seems to have the softest shadows I have ever seen and even with the “Voxel” and “Shadowmap” technologies I was only able to replicate this:

In comparison to this:

And this

Not only this, but I have also not had any success with custom coloured shadows such as follows:

I read somewhere that this “may” be accomplished by baking shadows into the models themselves, however, I’m not sure if that would work.

The soft shadows you see along the edges are default but are only seen on the highest graphics settings. You likely do not have your graphics settings turned up in Studio but do in games. You can also experiment with changing meshes and their collision behavior to “Box” or “Hull” if you want lighter shadows.

I tried messing with the CollisionFidelity and achieved something like this, using the Hull setting

Default spits out HUGE shadows

And Box produced no shadows

Is there any way to only apply the shadows at the very edges of the terrain where it meets the baseplate?

You will normally get those shadows at max graphics setting, you can change your studio graphics by going into settings then render.

Ah, I missed that detail from the other reply, now it produces similar results

But do you know how to change the shadow’s colours as seen in the following

You can either use a point light or change the ambient lighting in lighting.

Make sure your graphics are all the way up in studio settings and maybe disabling shadows altogether for that rock?

Are we talking about the default settings? The graphics are all the way up
