How do you decide what game concept to focus on?

With so many good ideas out there, it’s hard to pick one, right? I myself have been bouncing between four different games:

  1. A small dungeon crawl set in a dark woods,
  2. A survival game focusing on exploration and collecting resources over combat,
  3. A simple RPG about being a magical girl,
  4. And a small town simulator focusing on roleplay elements - customizing your apartment, avatar and exploring the story of the town.

I like what I’ve done for all four so far, but find that bouncing between the four games makes it hard to work for long stretches of time and focus on progress. I don’t feel like I’m getting a lot done. So, I just want to pick one to focus on - but god is it hard to decide when I keep getting good ideas for how to accomplish things in others. How have you guys chosen what to do? Are there any principles you stick to in order to not overwhelm yourself?

Stick to one game and just give it your all, I never really understood developing multiple games at once espcially as a solo developer, you’re just gonna burn yourself out and have even more unfinished projects that you were going to “make it big” or “this time i’ll finish it” smfh

It’s arleady hard enough as it is to make 1 game and finish it but multiple? Come on man, I say pick the one your having the most fun developing and stick to that one

For sure just pick the one you’re most passionate about and focus on just that one! That way you can put all your time and ideas into that one. You got this
