I’ve been on roblox studio for the past year since April 2024. In the past year, I still haven’t made a serious game that gets active players.
My problem with this is that I don’t know where to start in making an actual game. I have knowledge in scripting, and a little bit of building and modeling. Despite that, I can’t figure out how to get started with an actual game. I really need some advice on how to get started. Lastly, my ultimate goal is to make a game that has active players playing.
I’m not sure if you’re looking for a really in-depth answer for this, but all I can say is that you’d want to plan everything before you do it. Get an idea of what you want to make and just try your best to make everything.
That makes sense. Usually when I make a roblox game, I just start building and scripting with no plan. Big question is that should I write everything that I want for a game down as a plan or just keep for simple plans first?
You should make a MVP
I wish I had known this sooner. Sometimes I look at a game and know exactly how to make every component of it, but I can’t make “it”. Everytime I try I keep trying to perfect a specific system instead of making a working product.
Okay thanks for clarification. Do you know what I should do to start the game I’ve been planning? Over the past few days I’ve been planning a game using advice from Shiro ImJustCriz. Although I don’t have the motivation to do so.
I mean, what game are you planning? each game would be different. I personally also use the eisenhower matrix to determine the order to implement the features. (and which feature I should work on given the amount of time I have)
I’ve never heard of that before. I’m pretty sure this is what I’ve been needing. One of my problems I have is what to make first.
My game Im planning to make is potatoes falling from clouds that the players can pick up and sell.
I actually really like that idea. You should look at the Incremental genre, if you haven’t already.
Other people being interested in your idea is a good motivator. And I’m not just saying that because I want to run around grabbing potatoes. Well, I do, but that’s not my point.
