How do you make game icons/thumbnails?

Hi all, I recently started doing GFX, and it didn’t turn out to well, like for game icons and thumbnails. Can anybody suggest me useful tutorials, softwares (free), or even lessons, if you guys are up to it!
I just really want to start making good quality icons and thumbnails, thanks!

For free software, I encourage you to download Paint.net and download some plugins of your choice.
If you want to do some rendering, I assume you have heard of blender which is a free rendering and 3d modeling tool.

Basic YouTube searches should help you find useful tutorials to help you learn these programs or you can always ask a question on the DevForum!
