How do you put textures that go on terrain, and put them on parts?

Basicly, I want to import textures that are used in terrain, and put them on parts. But my main question is where can I find the textures that are used on terrain? Would that be a copyright violation? I already know how to put textures on parts.

I believe you are reffering to the smooth terrain textures to put them on the parts. If I am correct then this blog link should have 7 of the different smooth terrain textures, unfortunately I cannot find the rest.

I don’t know if it’s copyright violation or not but think it is not because we use smooth terrain in studio and in our games. Again, not 100% sure, so be safe

Hope this helps!

Do you know if there are any sandstone textures I can use?

Did you check the link they posted? There wasn’t sandstone.

Your only other option (well, best/easiest option) is to take a snip or screen shot of the terrain texture, put it into a third party program to make it even, and upload it into a texture.

It’s how I made this:

Did you not think to check before making this thread? :stuck_out_tongue:

If that image doesn’t work (it seems small and grainy around the edges), refer to my previous post.

Smooth terrain textures (diffuse/normal/specular) are stored in (on Windows, not sure about Mac):

C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Local\Roblox\Versions\CURRENT_ROBLOX_VERSION\PlatformContent\pc\terrain

Replace “YOUR_USER” with whatever user profille you use on your computer and replace “CURRENT_ROBLOX_VERSION” with whatever the current Roblox version is. Just sort the folders by date and select the most recently modified one.

Hope this helps.

The problem with this method is it doesn’t include the depth of the image very well. This is what you find in that folder:

(it’s also very small and blowing it up will make it pixelated).

This also doesn’t take into account Lighting settings or shadows (as you can see, these are white-washed) nor is there a way to upload normal and specular onto an image yet in Studio. That’s why I explained in my post to take a picture of terrain in the workspace.

I know that they are stored there, but when I open them they have a magenta tint covering them. So how can I remove the tint then (I use paint . net)

I’m not sure how to get rid of the magenta overlay on them, though you could mess around with the colors in Photoshop or similar. Again though, as Aotrou said, having the raw textures won’t do much good until custom materials come out so I would recommend his solution until then. I just thought I’d throw up the idea regardless.

Well how do I remove reflections, and lighting stuff from getting in to the screen shot?

You’ll have to play with lighting settings and time of day to get an angle without a reflection. It’s a huge pain in the ass - and really won’t ever be “perfect,” but it can work out with some trial and error:

where did you find the file?
Im looking for the old terrain textures everywhere in the files but i cant find it

I could be mistaken, but on windows, I think this file can be located somewhere in C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\Roblox\Versions\Some_Version\content\textures

EDIT: One of the posts above should answer question, unless it’s changed now.

i didnt find them although i did find this in: /Versions/Some_version/PlatformContent/pc/terrain
preaty sure its something else entirely.

I think it’s the terrain textures, but with a tint applied to them. As for why they have a tint applied to them, I have no idea. You could put them inside of a program like paint dot net, and try to overlay a color that is the opposite of the color of the tint, so that way you could somehow undo the tint. As for how you could do this in paint dot net, I have no idea.
