Okay, so I am currently building a pixel art game. In which I myself create all of the pixel art. I am running into some copyright notifications. I am guessing it’s because I am creating characters that have copyrights on them? So, does this mean all the pixel art that I create needs to be of my own imagination?
There’s no predicting what characters do and do not have copyrights to them (you can find this info online though), but you will always be certain that things you created yourself do not. When in doubt, don’t use (or re-create) what others created. You as place owner are always responsible for making sure you aren’t violating the Intellectual Property of someone else.
Ah, man. I have literally created and uploaded hundreds of these. Okay, time to re-think this… I guess. It’s really hard to know sometimes. Thx for the reply
Tip: If you did not come up with what you’re making (as in it’s not your original creation) do not make it (unless it’s just for personal fun aka you won’t make it public) and release to the public.
Look what happens to all the Pokemon games after all
Yeah, I understand that and yes many games on roblox, even some popular ones are just recreations of other games. Like phone apps, xbox, steam games, etc.
Sadly unless the company that owns the IP makes a dmca claim roblox won’t do anything.
Proper research and communication with a professional is key to understanding such a concept.
Okay my issue was with the Nyan cat so I am currently taking it out of my game. But for learning purposes for myself and future visitors of this post. How do we go about getting permissions to legitimately use such a thing?
Gain a licence for use in your game. How do you that should be researched and talked about to with a legal professional.
Just found this which could be very useful.
How do I search for copyright free images on Google?
Follow these simple steps to find royalty free images using the Google Images advanced search.
- Enter a search term in Google Images search.
- Click the Gear icon, then select Advanced search.
- Scroll down and use the usage rights drop down menu to select free to use or share, even commercially.
Try using the bulk upload tool that Roblox created.

That isn’t a very reliable way to search, but the site pixabay may help, though I’m not sure if it will have what you need
Yes, Roblox is very tedious when it comes to things of artistic work and projects. The community would most appreciate raw imagination and creativity. For example, you make a pix-elated Mario or Link it would most likely get copyrighted due to Nintendo coming up with the fictional characters.
