How does Rolling Thunder do it?

I am working on a memory heavy game due to lots of terrain and features. The game exceeds 2-3 gigabytes of memory normally while games like Rolling Thunder maintain under 1.5 gb of memory, while having huge maps and things going on. How do games like Rolling Thunder use so little memory?

They don’t use roblox’s terrain system and they use a custom filtering system
