Hello, I have a YouTuber friend who hired me to make him a gfx thumbnail for his video. I made it and I realize we didn’t really talk about payment or anything beforehand, and I also never got commissioned before so I’m not sure how much I should be charging because I wouldn’t want to be undervaluing my work and get paid to little or overcharging my work that someone else could do better for the same price if that makes sense.
I would like to hear your opinions so if you have the time please reply.
( The diamond around the screen is to protect my work please don’t mind it)
I’d agree with the post above me with the 10k but ultimately it’s your choice in pricing. Think if the payment you would get makes you feel good about your art rather than "I’m not sure if I priced my art right in the end. Is it a few hundred or a couple thousand?
Also, always make sure the payment is settled before starting on the GFX. I’ve had a few cases when I was starting where I never really discussed payment and I found that the people who commissioned me couldn’t afford or didn’t want to pay the price I listed after I had made their GFX, which ended up in me getting ghosted and my effort down the drain. So I always make sure that the commissioner is comfortable in paying and is able to without problem before proceeding with the commission.
