Hi! I’ve recently made this large Border type game which is set in Germany. I’m looking to sell it but not sure what price to put for a map of this scale. The build opens with an outskirts type area, leading to a small city strip, which then ends with a border. Once you enter the border, you can access the “Outer City.” Ahead of this is another border which leads to the “Inner City.” The Inner City is filled with numerous monuments - Intelligence HQ, Rally Square, Party HQ, Army and Honor Guard HQ, Admission and State Police Office, and the Kulturpalast Dresden - and most of them have specialized interiors. I was thinking of $280 USD but heard its too high. H
you already posted this in #collaboration:asset-marketplace, you shouldn’t post it again, because you already asked for a price there(and you suggested one already too). https://devforum.roblox.com/t/selling-large-border-map-with-cities-germany/403954
yes, I know there was an argument there, but you shouldn’t repost things.
I wanted a critique in the right category so I can change the price of the selling post. The critique there was uncalled for and wasn’t suitable in the category, I think its valid if I ask for a price in the right place
Ok then, I would say that your previous price was fine as it was, because, even though people disagreed, that is a big map that you probably spent a huge amount of time on. But, if you don’t manage to sell it, then you lower the price, or add new details and keep the price.
Can you send a bird’s eye view of the map? I’m curious how it all looks together and how large the map is to maybe determine the price a little. But currently I’ll say it is maybe worth $30 - $40 USD (approximately 8,570 to 11,420 robux in DevEx rates) currently. It just doesn’t feel like a proper map. The buildings are fairly simple (with a few copied and pasted here and there), and the terrain is also very simple.
Using meshes with those simple part buildings also don’t really match, so that kind of decreases the value a little. Interiors are very bland and simple, and the buildings surrounding the ‘Inner City’ appear quite thin.
I might be low balling the amount I feel it is worth, but from those things I mentioned, it is the reason why I feel it is worth the amount I said it was worth.
Well think about it, there are interiors and probably tens of different buildings, even though its copied and pasted. In addition, there seems to be a lot of work placing things where it is supposed to be
The maps split into 2. The first ones the main border and the second one includes the inner and outer city. I understand the problem with the rehashing of buildings but I can make more if the buyer wants. Also, I was influenced by the buildings in Germany which is why they may look a bit simplistic.
I’d pay around 3,000 to 6,000 Robux for this map. The reasoning is that there’s too much open space to in my opinion, the terrain could be a lot better, maybe better walls on the barrier of the map. Focus more on precision and smaller detail! Trust me, that’s key!
Better trees, better terrain, and better lighting with a lot of barriers on the wall adjustments and I think this would be worth at least 10,000.
The placement might not be too difficult in my opinion (due to how much space there is to put buildings in). Of course there are tens of different buildings, however you can see a few use the same type of windows and general shape and all, just modified a little. Also from the pictures, only a few unique buildings have interiors (as suggested by either transparent windows or pictures taken inside).
Although I understand why you believe it is worth more then the value that I listed, as making an entire map and a city is no easy task. However, upon closer inspection by me I stand firm on the price I gave the map.
The buildings listed in my post for the Inner City (Intelligence HQ, Rally Square, Party HQ, Army and Honor Guard HQ, Admission and State Police Office) all have interiors. They are generally empty though for the buyer to fill it to their liking
Ah ok, I get it on why the buildings are more simple as well as the reason for the plain interiors. I didn’t really read the post and just got straight into the pictures. Makes a lot more sense.
But I have a few suggestions that I feel might increase the value. Making the entire thing one section might increase the value, as well as reducing how much empty space there is in the city in order to make it feel like a, city. Also I recommend making the map larger, as a city I feel doesn’t feel normal that small. Anyways you don’t have to use all the suggestions, as I am no expert in maps.
Anyways, the price is what you want it to be. You can maybe look around and see previous maps being sold in order to think of a price for your map.
I was just messing around, I’m open to hear any feedback. Though, the way you introduced your view was kinda unnecessary. I’m all ears, please elaborate your view
I asked out of respect as many aren’t capable of handling the truth, however the truth will set you free if you take it into consideration with an open mind.
Please keep in mind that if I offended you it isn’t to be taken personal, I’m not aiming to hurt your feelings nor am I trying to purposefully disrespect your craft. To minimize the damage done I’ll be separating my critique into sections so that you may read each at your own discretion. Just to clarify, I’m not speaking to you in this tone to degrade you I’m doing it because of how over sensitive people have become. First impression of you didn’t necessarily give me “Hey, I’m an open minded individual that won’t be hurt by a negative perspective” vibes either.
Overvaluing your work
Before I even expand on why I strongly believe you’re overvaluing the present builds, I’d like to point out that I understand it from your perspective. You invested hours, possibly even days into each build which to some people is impressive however that isn’t what consumers care about, x amount of time into each project’s completion is disregarded and possibly even a bias had been formed if the quality isn’t to their standards. You were judged on everything you did the moment you posted this thread. From the way you handled criticism, which posts you responded to, and the quality of the builds itself. Familiarize yourself with that lesson and you’ll become more cautious about what you sell in the future.
To get my point across, I’ll be referencing two commission sheets.
As you can tell from first glance, their pricing is either identical to your present rates or less overall depending on the maps size. While I won’t bother comparing/contrasting their quality vs your current quality I will at minimum boldly claim that consumers would prefer their services over yours. The only potential explanation that comes to mind that anyone would feel any different is if the consumers weren’t aware of @HolidayPwner or @TrustMeImRussian’s existence. That sales on the current map designs on display by your services would be based on naivety solely.
Harsh as that may seem, it’s undeniably truthful. This is 2019, standards have risen over the years and builders are expected to match those standards by consumers.
Improving your skillset
Before I explain in detail, I’m going to give a quick list of what you should’ve done before offering your services.
Keeping your plugins up to date, improving your workflow is key to less time consumption and can improve the build’s final result overall.
Expanding past studio, it’s undeniable that many builders have shifted to blender or alternative 3D modeling software to break past the limitations studio has.
Focusing more on the final result rather than x amount of time invested into the project. Prioritizing quality over quantity is important unless your contractor states otherwise.
At minimum familiarizing yourself with the basics of lighting, terrain.
Upgrading your PC’s parts to at least minimize crashes or freezing.
If you don’t know how to do something than ask for help or seek out the solutions yourself. Never settle on what you can do in the moment, always strive to break past your limits.
Assuming you’ve covered all of those in advance, we’ll move on to what needs to be adjusted.
Dark colors should be used in moderation, even if the level design was intended to be dark there’s better alternatives than to use repetitive grays.
Using less bland architecture designs throughout the map, experiment with different styles throughout the design process. Don’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone.
Try to experiment with a variety of textures rather than relying on the materials Roblox provides for you by default. Similar to color usage, use materials in moderation.
If the build was produced 100% by you without any free models of meshes, textures or builds, I
thoroughly recommend putting it up for around 5k - 8k robux as it does look very appealing, but personally it does need that little bit of adjusting such as a more realistic environment like plants or grass to possibly increase price and overall a better feel to the map.
The map looks good, but it has a lot of space that hasn’t been used. You could buy some shops there. Otherwise, I think I would buy it for 6-10k robux (if I wasn’t as poor as I am right now).
