How Names Are Evolving on Roblox

I was talking about the potential security risks of setting a real life name others can see. It’s implied that 17+ users can set visible real life names.

It would be a literal option. Preferrably one that would prioritize the username on display, and the display name would be secondary, so no need to worry about “oh you didn’t see my new display name”.

“We’re also allowing 17+ users* in the U.S. to edit their own public facing name with their real name to better represent themselves. We will continue to filter names”… (Implying they will be publicly visible and need censoring) …“that violate our Community Standards, like profanity, hate speech, and sexual content.”

This shouldn’t be an issue at all, since developers can access a player’s username along with their display name.

The problem is that they just don’t. The default leaderboard needs to be replaced with a custom one, which isn’t much of a problem but players dislike it.

This is stupid. Roblox is ultimately a games platform, and trying to push this social-media “metaverse” narrative is completely useless and serves no purpose to anybody other than the investors so that Roblox can say “Look we’re leading the metaverse!”
No player has asked for this, and no player will use this. Why is the engine being bloated with nonsense features?

People just use this to put a space in their name. I’ve seen names like “Skibidi Toilet” and “Guest 666” because of this.

as one of the 5 people who actually likes this feature, can we get a straight answer on this post’s faq for how to access an alias you’ve set for your friend in-game for the sake of custom ui?
