Recently I’ve been trying to learn scripting better, but I dont know what are my current limits and how good am I at it, Therefore I wanted to check for my current limit.
So I tried looking up things here in the forum, youtube things, but I still don’t have any idea of what I could do to test myself…
I’d like to know how to get ideas to test my current scripting level.
If you just want to improve you programming skills, it doesn’t really matter. But it’s always more fun to make something that you find interesting, so just go for that.
If you can’t come up with anything, just clone something that already exists.
In the words of D4rk886, make a game based on your favorite game. If you really like shooters, make a shooter. Focus on playability before you focus on perfection. Once it is playable, invite some friends, get their feedback. That’s easy enough to say in one breath, but just don’t rush it.
Well my problem is that I dont really have a “favorite” game, I really like fighting games and all but I can’t do anything other than basic GUIs, only a bit of building and programming.
When I see that the GUIs, builds, others are good then I can be able to make the code since I am satisfied with the game, when there ain’t those things but there are only codes I feel less motivated…
I have faced this as a new scripter but I learned that the learning never stops.
Here, make your imagination limitless, now think of anything, ANYTHING you want and never made on roblox, now go on and make that thing, perhaps try and have it complex.
You will face alot of challenges but never give up, if there is error then fix it, do not erase all work and restart, if you are tired you can always stop at a certain time and complete it tommorow.
I never actually thought of a thing that I wanted on roblox and I didnt find. I already got ideas for what to do but the thing is I cant really make anything if I dont see the other things.
Therefore I would need to build, animate, make GUIs, so I will be able to put my programming in proccess…
That’s why the learning never stops, yes try to take other concepts and make them yourself, keep practicing your own way and then when you think you are ready try making your own ideas.
My problem with the animation and GUIs is that there arent so much tutorials about them so I end up not being able to do them so well and not learning anything.
In the building case, I know a bit and I watch some speedbuilds that makes me learn more about it.
Replicating real-life systems is one of the practices I do. Not only does it improve your programming, it also helps you understand those systems. This can increase your productivity and you’ll have an easier time creating complex systems.
@AstralBlu_e Perhaps you shouldn’t have such burden on yourself, GUI’s, programming, animations and building in one time?
No, try learning everything seperatly and try to have time for each one of these, I don’t think it’s that good to do 4 multiple tasks in the same time, but 1 at a time, organize yourself, and you’ll eventually get the hang of it.
I never said I do try to learn all of these at the same time, I only said that GUIs and animations are things that are hard to me to learn since there arent many tutorials on it.
And when I try learning programming, I either do it by doing systems where I dont need the other things or I need the other things and then I script them…
So I was wanting to know how I would even get ideas for these and to learn these.
@AstralBlu_e Here listen, Try starting GUIs and animations at a time, if it may seem difficult then don’t give up! always use sources that can help, join communities and even ask the forums!
Here is a good source by a known youtuber/developer who helped me learn nowadays:
He has a full series on GUI’s, remember you can always ask on the devforums
It’s just a little search, and you’ll up end up with heavy treasure of knoweldge layed down on you, take it easy and slow, don’t rush anything and organize your time, being perfect doesn’t matter, I doubt anyone started easy, it’s just slow process that you will end up taking in, it doesn’t matter learning it in a day, and remember the learning never ends, take rest, give yourself time and you’ll surely succeed.
