How should I do area progression?

I want to do something like area progression in my game. You start off in a small area and you buy more and more space. But I don’t want you to buy huge spaces at once, I want you to buy small spaces for small amounts and progress your way throughout the map.

This is what I’ve done:

The entire map is covered until you buy the areas.

This is what it looks like to buy an area.

I’ll add some animations to make it a lot smoother.

Is this alright or do I need to change it?

I feel like you might want to consider making the boxes black, so that way you can see the restricted areas much more clearly.
