How should I go about making this area less bland

I’ve created this basic layout of paths in my fighting game, however, over time it’s gotten very bland for my players, (and myself).

I’m looking for some ideas on how I could possibly redo this area, or add some more details. As it’s outdated, being from the first version of this game, and doesn’t fit the rest of the map.

The overall theme of the game is a combination of sci-fi and medieval. The world the game takes place in is ruled by a authoritarian government. (Brutalist architecture, etc.)

(Pathways connect the main building and the spawn area.)

(Center area for combat.)

This is just extra detail you could add, but I’m not really sure how you could change it up, maybe add more curves and stuff.

  • some weapons that are laying around or in barrels
  • some cracks in the walk way/walls to make it more interesting
  • some bricks that are a bit higher than others
  • maybe some banners and flags would work
  • statues of the devs or the players with a lot of wins,
  • some potted plants, small tress

A really simple trick to improve large, blank walls is just implementing layered arches. Layer 2-3 arches and repeat them across the wall, and it just adds a whole new level of detail. If you’re focussing on brutalism though, add some projected ridges from the wall. All you need to do is improve the depth of detail on the blank faces and it should be fine.

Pipelines are also a very simple method of improving wall detailing.

Thank you very much, I’ll be looking into adding some of these suggestions whenever I complete the bridge design.

I’ve included some of these aspects for when I redesign the bridges, thank you. Would you have any tips for the flat area in the middle?

Honestly, you can compensate for the middle section by just going all out on the exterior. I’d just recommend some simple assets like barrels, more pipes, etc etc. Also try add some trimming to the flooring, just to add that extra detail.
