So I’ve recently come back to building and started working on a game and it’s based in a medieval setting. I’ve never built in this style before so it’s completely new to me. How can I improve this? I’m quite happy with it rn considering it’s my first ever medieval style building, but it still feels like it’s lacking something.
Also how do you make doors. They’re so painful to make
It’s either about using your imagination or trying to make it match something real. If you check out some of my projects, you’ll see I aimed for a 1:1 replica of real life buildings… I even went to the capital to study them up close. On top of that, you can always just look up house or door decorations for inspiration online.
For the house, you could maybe add some stuff to make it more realistic, maybe a sign or maybe a chimney where you could also add some particle effects to make it look like there’s smoke coming out of there…
About the door, you could add more, a locker maybe, some hinges for realism, a window maybe and whatever
Now what I told you above are just some simple examples, but if you’d take an actual real life object and then try to copy it 1:1, you’d have a vision of how you want it to look
The house looks great! However, there are some things I would add:
-
Some flower beds near each window, or some sort of decoration. It helps the bottom part of the build look less empty.
-
Maybe one of the windows could be open or slightly cracked. It adds a bit of realism and life to the build.
-
I know this isn’t a part of the actual house, but you could add a wooden wagon or some barrels infront or around the house.
-
Add some foliage like a couple of well placed vines or moss on the walls. Not to much, because you don’t want it to like it was inside a jungle. Just a little to add some nature.
Hope this helps. Good luck on your game!
This is also the wrong category. There is one specifically for building help and questions. Use #help-and-feedback:building-support.
This was really helpful! Thanks!
Oops mb. I’ve changed it now. Thanks for pointing that out.
Glad you have found some good improvements to your house but would like to add something.
Another thing that could benefit your house would be using different shapes. It really depends on what you were going for but typically rectangular buildings lack real depth and variety, for a better looking home, you could consider going for more of an ‘L’ shape to really make the building look great. Yes… I got this from Minecraft building tutorials.
But of course if your game is quite simplistic, and you want to keep with basic geometry houses, also fair enough.
Best of luck!
