I’m currently making a round based game that is all about escaping a maze, and said maze has walls which disappear at random. When the player escapes, they get 10 ice cream, which is the currency of the game. They can also get ice cream when it spawns in the maze, and even in the lobby occasionally.
However, I realized that I’ve been adding more way to get ice cream than to spend it, and I cannot think of ways to have players spend their ice cream. I only have one thing players can purchase with ice cream, which is a speed boost for the next round. I’ve been trying to add more “boosts” that help the player, but for a game that’s all about escaping a maze with disappearing walls, there’s little to no options to pick from.
What do you want to achieve? I want to have many ways for players to spend currency.
What is the issue? I’m making more ways to earn the currency rather than ways to spend it, and I’m having trouble thinking of ways to use it.
What solutions have you thought of so far? I tried talking to friends and ask them for suggestions, but like I said, there’s not a whole lot when the game is about escaping a maze with disappearing walls.
Usually games have a currency of coins which can be earned and are purchasable, lots of games have perks to buy such as special name tags/coloured names, pets, character trails and sometimes stuff to customize their character to look like they have earned their coins well. I hope your games comes out as a success! :)
In addition to the boosts, you can have perks and cosmetics, the latter not affecting gameplay whatsoever. In cosmetics, you can have trails, skins, hats, pets, etc. In perks, you can have something like x-ray vision for 2 seconds to see the end, and/or maybe something competitive such as blocking the other players so you can get to the end first! Also, try not to make it a pay-to-win type of system, primarily have your currency be spendable on cosmetics and gears that don’t really affect the game. However, having perks is also needed since that’s mainly what players aim for (they want to “complete” the game). Speaking of completing the game, whatever you choose from my assortment of shop ideas, make sure you add more and more each week/month or so to increase your game’s replay value.
The most recommended is that you creates a GUI store and there you put products which can be bought with those ice creams, for example, some object with animation or something else
You can make cool chat tags for the player. if they have 50000 ice cream they can exchange it for “pro” so people know they had a lot of ice cream and experience playing the game to obtain it. sort of like what Epic Minigames did.
Cosmetics are probably the best way to get players to spend ice cream. In epic mini games there are many things you can spend coins on so many cosmetic items (titles, pets, particles etc)
You could take 1 idea (pets for example) and then expand on it. When you buy pets you can upgrade them with ice creams, or another example could be “auras” which could just be effects around the player. You could also create some sort of “wheel of fortune” that could literally just be “spin wheel for 50 ice cream” and the prizes could be junkie like a “cool kid” title.
Another way to do this is to add some sort of rare currency. In clash of clans there are gems that are rare, same with Roblox games like welcome to bloxburg, there is a rare currency, you could add that so the focus isn’t always on ice cream.
1 last option could be a limit/capacity to how many ice cream you can pick up. Kinda like murder mystery “coin picking up mechanic” with a limit.
Super speed, high jump or even hints like :The next turn turn right: 1 hint = 10 ice creams. Are you hiring ideas man? . I can be ideas man and help scrpt some of the game all for a price of 150 - 200 robux (negotiatable)
