Hey guys! So for my game, I’m planning to create anime-styled characters in Blender and have been following this tutorial to do it:
After watching the tutorial for a bit I got this:
However, when I try to apply smooth shading onto the mesh I get these huge ugly lines appearing on the face:
This is my first time doing topology so I don’t really know what’s going on ;-;
Are there any fixes?
The video above isn’t really a tutorial and is more of a tour of his workflow and doesn’t really explain anything…

It looks like you have multiple verticies in one position, also I would recommend putting auto smooth on.

Is there a texture on the Mesh that’s causing the lines?
If you do have multiple vertices then in Edit mode use the Mesh > Clean up > Merge vertices tool. You may need to go to the bottom of the screen where the tool popup is and increase the increment from .0001 to something higher (I usually use .003).
Another thing to try is the Mesh > Normals > Reset vectors tool.

Select all vertices and merge by distance, I think ‘M’ is the keybind.

I figured it out, it was because some faces were inside out.
Check out this article if you guys are having trouble:
When we start to learn modeling in Blender, we will come across multiple problems with our mesh. Anything from inverted normals, making our shading look off to lose geometry and gaping holes in the mesh. Here is a list of the most common problems...
