Hi, I’m new to Blender and Modeling.
I really want to learn how to do this and get it over with so I can go on to make more characters and not have trouble along the way.
So I made this Monkey Head Model from a really easy-to-use website called TinkerCad. I exported it into Blender and realized that it’s way too big in terms of the geometry size. sorry I don’t know the correct terms. I’ve looked up how to resize it using the Decimate Modifier in Blender, but it’s not working. I can see the faces in Object Mode but don’t see them in Edit Mode. I think that’s normal? but when I up the iteration, nothing changes. The faces don’t go down. Is there an easier method to resize it so that it’s not too big and still looks decent enough?
I also need help with how to remove some unnecessary edges that are around like a nose or the eyes.
Here 2 pictures that represent a before and after what I want it to look like.
First make sure you are in edit mode by pressing tab, then you want to press “a” on your keyboard to select all of the objects in the workspace. Right after that you press “s” and move your mouse to scale it larger and smaller. Click when you get to the desired size. For future reverence I really recommend doing your modeling through blender, it has many similar key binds to tinkercad so it should translate easily.
Assuming you mean cutting down on actual geometry (triangle count), not physical size, you could import the mesh through the new roblox mesh importer, accessed through the plugins menu in studio (you might have to enable the beta). This automatically cuts the mesh triangle count while keeping the shape and details the same. The unnecessary edges will also be removed.
If this doesn’t work for you, you might want to click apply on the decimate modifier to see the changes applied to edit mode, not just a visual effect in object mode.
You can use CTRL-F to join faces together, you can use that to get rid of some of the unnecessary faces on your model. Make sure you apply your modifiers after getting the look you want or you will be unable to see them in edit-mode. Also, I’d highly recommend looking at some modelling tutorials as your model has way too high tri-counts for something as basic as what you have. The sphere objects do not need to be as high-tri count as they are. You can also use shade-smooth to make your mesh smooth.
