Hello! I’ve released a game a week ago which it has reached 100 visits, it’s good for me cause it’s my 2nd game ever. Anyways, I did my first upd to the game. Not a gfx artist but how can improve this?
I’m not sure what the game is based on the icon alone, or the post, so my feedback is limited.
The icon is vibrant, which is good if that matches the game direction/vibe. The text ‘UPD 1’ being red on a red background can make it hard to read for some. It does also take a great portion of the icon, and thus tells the user that it’s important.
I’d make the palette in the middle of the icon clip in front of the red ‘UPD 1’ area. Maybe it looks better as is, not sure. Overall, the icon looks good to me.
So the icon should be atop and the green splatter on the bottom?
The palette icon moved atop, and nothing done to the green splatter, yes. I’m assuming the palette icon is the main focus of the overall icon, as it is in the middle.
Wording is confusing, hope that makes sense.
I don’t get the red triangle background on the left. Maybe a paint splodge shape would work better, with a better contrasting color for the upd1 text.
Purpose was to attract users and to inform that there’s something important happening to the game. In my mind, if I just add update 1, it wouldn’t attract more people, maybe some but not a lot. Rather, it’s showing than telling

Maybe you could replace the font of “UPD 1”, it looks alot like blood

the red “upd 1” text on the red background lacks enough contrast, i’d also make the “color rarity” text a bit bigger
Replace red rectangle with a red splotch of paint, make “UPD 1” be on said splotch, have a more inviting/friendly font and a more contrasting color. Put “Color Rarity” on the top right of the paint brush and palette and make all the things on the icon bigger overall.
