How to Make $3K per Month from Roblox

So you want to make 3k monthly from roblox?

The first thing you will need is obviously a good game. It doesn’t need to be grow a grade level but it does need to have some kind of progression and monetizing. Lets say you make Cookie Clicker Ultra and you have a few gamepasses.

And now you’re wondering, “how do I make 3k per month”. Well we all know that for every robux sale there is a 30% fee on all robux transactions. Pretty obvious. But after that when you devex your precious money there is a $0.0035 per Robux fee (but nobody knows what that means).

Roblox doesn’t give us a percentage just that number, which I feel is misleading (the whole point of this post) so I did some math and thats roughly 65% for devex.

So adding the fees, the total is roughly 75% from the 65% + 30%.

Thats not so bad.

Yes i agree, it doesn’t sound that bad and I think its fair considering the tools Roblox gives, but lets shift back to our goal of making $3k Per month.

So, if you want to actually make $3,000 a month, you’d need the game to generate roughly $12,000 in player spending per month ($12,000 × 25% = $3,000).

… Woah. Thats a lot

That’s before you even consider taxes, which could take another 20–30% depending on your location.

So here’s the breakdown

  1. Player Spending: $12,000
  2. Roblox Marketplace + DevEx: ~75% → $3,000 left
  3. Income Taxes (~25% average): $3,000 x 0.75 → ~$2,250 take-home

So to net $3k after taxes, you’d realistically need around $15–16k in gross player spending per month. That’s assuming your Cookie Clicker Ultra does very well. if your revenue is split across multiple smaller experiences, the required traffic goes up even more.

Supporting a family

But lets say you want to start a family. I’m not really paying bills or anything yet since I’m only 18 but I feel like to pay the bills w/ a family you need somewhere around $100k per year in many united states areas. At least thats how much mine has to make w/ a single parent.

I did the calculation and for $100K its 100/.25 = $400K per year

And so after gov income tax that means you need to earn $570,000, which is the top 0.2% of earners, just to net $100K, which is only around the top 18% of U.S. incomes.

What are your thoughts

Since I’ve devex’d before, its suprising to hear I could have earned $15k but only got $3k from my game.

I will say though that I really do like all the tools that Roblox gives but its still hard to believe I need to earn over half a million, which is the top 0.2% of earners, just to get just $100K per year, which is the top 18%.

what are your thoughts on the fee structure?

In my opinion devex rates should be different from game to game because some games are a lot more expensive on Roblox servers while other games have little to no memory / CPU / data usage. This would also encourage developers to make their games more optimized to save costs for Roblox. What yall think?

I definitely agree with this. Some games take up a lot more than others. Like why should singleplayer/pc only games be taxed the same as servers that have a hundred players with all device types that are more expensive to manage.

Plus some games like grow a garden make so much money that the 75% tax probably already covered Roblox’s expenses on the game for lifetimes. More successful games should definitely receive lower rates (but I know roblox wouldnt do that cause I wouldnt do that if I were them lol)

I must say… $3,000 is an interesting number.

Why not something more sustainable like $10,000?

The reason I chose $3k specifically is because that was the amount I recieved from devex from my game earnings. $10K could work but I feel like its way harder to achieve than $3k per month

I just did the math rq and using the 75% rough estimate of taxes I calculated in the post to make $10K per month you would need to make $40K since 10k / 0.25=40k

wow thats way bigger than I thought

It’s a good number because in most places in the first world (outside of the most expensive cities), it’s enough (albeit bare minimum) to make a living off Roblox.

I’m not really paying bills or anything yet since I’m only 18 but I feel like to pay the bills w/ a family you need somewhere around $100k per year in many united states areas

To earn $100K per year after taxes, you’d need roughly $570,000 in player spending on Roblox. This accounts for Roblox’s fees and U.S. federal, FICA, and average state taxes. So on roblox $100K after taxes is still an amount only achieved by the top 1% of U.S. earners, roughly 99.8% higher than the median household income

updated the numbers a bit after some research

in what world would $10,000 be considered more sustainable. It is don’t get me wrong but is inflation really that bad that the average American has to make $10k a month to live sustainably? is $3k not enough??

Because those singleplayer games are using the exact same server infrastructure as multiplayer games; if not more, because you now need 100 servers to support 100 players instead of one server.

I’m supportive of people who want to make singleplayer games as projects, but this isn’t a singleplayer platform and devs who choose to do something so far outside what Roblox is designed to be shouldn’t really expect to succeed.

I’m not really paying bills or anything yet since I’m only 18 but I feel like to pay the bills w/ a family you need somewhere around $100k per year in many united states areas

  • $100k per year is above the average household income, which generally means two adults working full-time.
  • $3000 a month is $36000/yr, which is definitely below average… but then, half of all people make a below average amount. It’s a very normal amount for a young adult starting a new career, especially if they live with roommates and don’t yet have a family to support.
  • It’s also far easier to find success on Roblox once you’re established and working on it full time - if you’re making $3000 and committed to improving, it’s pretty easy to grow from there.

Yeah I agree that the $100K per year number can be above average in a lot of areas. The main reason I was saying it was because thats the amount my family needs for a basic middle class life where I live.

I appreciate your message clarifying also because it helps me understand the context better too but I still think that the Roblox fee is suprising.

I really do like all the tools that Roblox gives but its still hard to believe I need to earn over half a million, which is the top 0.2% of earners, just to get just $100K per year, which is the top 18%.

For a single American, $100k could work in major cities. It’s a good amount for small cities through.

And $3k/month wouldn’t be enough for a single person to live comfortably anywhere.

I think this might just be you

that’s $36K per year which is barely making it for a single person income. Yes you would be surviving but not really living. Like a small single person rental at $1050 per month in a small city. You would have to rent for the rest of your life too because you could never buy a home. And your game’s earnings will not always be consistent.

wow it’s quite different here in the UK. To me it’s quite barbaric to think 10k would be avg where over here people live with families on 3-4k monthly

36k a year is literally minimum wage. I don’t know what you’re spending your money on to not survive off of 3k a month. Maybe I’m just the crazy one here
