How to make a fps game that doesn't feel so repitive and boring

If you dont like FPS games and you dont want to/dont have the ability to make a major innovation that could add something new to the genre you probably shouldn’t make an FPS game. And judging by the messages you’ve sent, it doesn’t seem like you have very much regard for the genre as a whole. All I’m saying is you should probably focus on creating something else, like something you actually have a passion for.

Introduce a unique element or produce something uncommon.

A lot of FPS games seem to just be player vs player and generally become Call of Duty or Counter Strike pilled when it comes to play style.

I personally find games like Strafe, Ultrakill and Maximum Action interesting as they’re usually fast paced, have dodge mechanics and sometimes come with interesting mechanics.

Ultrakill has dashing, parrying, grapplehook, ground pounding to send enemies flying and the coin flip that you can shoot.
Some enemies can parry your explosive projectiles like the cleaner robots.

Maximum Action has diving, sliding, dual-wielding literally ANY weapon you want and slow-motion.
The game is really focused on action movie-style gameplay, everything is very exaggerated.

Strafe has rather unique weapons, some which fire ricocheting projectiles, have multiple fire modes.
You typically hold onto a “main weapon”, sometimes you find weapons with limited ammo that you throw away after use.

All three games are action-packed, usually over-the-top gory and filled with explosions and physics which makes destruction very satisfying.
I get a dopamine rush every time I successfully manage to explode a group of enemies and you get this firework show or chain reaction of pure destruction that makes you feel like a god.

All three games also reward skills, combos and allow for different play styles.
I think Strafe and Maximum Action give you the most freedom, you can play the game however you want.

All I’ve mentioned here are things I’ve rarely ever seen on Roblox.
People usually seem really focused on just multiplayer CoD-like games and death matches.
They can be fun but I sometimes get bored of them as well to be fair.

Make a game which has extremely quick TTK, such as one hit one kill. This would force a Rainbow Six Siege style of gameplay - challenging and strategic.

I have only found one Shooter Game that was actually good, and it didn’t have only that, it was probably 25% Shooting, 45% Story, 30% Exploration
So the Shooter part wasn’t the main part, probably because of that I like it
But the thing was, the fighting was fast-paced, you had to think fast, you had 2 teammates to fight, and they had abilities which you could control (thing that in the 4th entry they destroyed) and it made sense, I died countless times, even when fighting normal enemies you would die countless times even when not on Insane mode, but (even though you would rage sometimes) I had a reason to keep killing, dying and respawning, and that was the Story, the Story was what made me want to keep playing, the Exploration, that’s as another important part, my point is, the Shooting part shouldn’t be the main part of the Game, as that’s not enough to keep you playing the Game, you need something else
(If you think you know what Game I’m talking about, Message me and I’ll tell you if you’re right, also, it’s made by BioWare)

Reminds me of Hotline Miami and Anger Foot.
Both games are one-hit-kill basically.

It really forces you to react quickly and come up with strategies.
The enemies die in one hit but so do you.

It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by enemies and bullets often fly so fast that they’re really hard to dodge so you often rely on quick action or having to quickly get behind cover.

In HM, doors can be utilized to stun enemies.
In Anger Foot, kicking a door will break it out of it’s hinges, sends it flying and kills the enemy behind it if they get hit.

Its also more realistic, isn’t it? I doubt someone would still be running and gunning if they get shot in real life.

Reminds me of Super Hot, that was a good implementation of the Shooting Genre (for some levels)

Oh boy, bro’s saying Anthem is the only good shooter he’s played. I really hope I’m wrong and you’re talking about Mass Effect.

It happens way more often than you’d think.

Well, that would depend on a lot of factors. Obviously, getting shot 5 times, hiding behind a crate and healing in 15 seconds isnt realistic. But neither is getting shot one and instantly collapsing and dying, unless you got domed.

The feeling of repetitiveness comes from the fact that it’s been done before. So the only real way that you can make a game that doesn’t feel repetitive and boring is to make it unlike any other game you can find on the platform! You could make up a story, where you create a couple of characters and make it unique to your game only. You can include custom weapons not found in other games. Perhaps even the environment could make the difference between generic and unique! Most FPS games take place on Earth, so why not a place like Mars? You can’t ask us how to make it not repetitive and less boring, because one of us will be tempted to actually make it: spawning a domino effect.
