How to make my terrain look more tropical?

I’ve been trying to work on terrain for a game based in a tropical environment, such as Hawaii or the Virgin Islands, but I just haven’t been able to make the mountains actually look tropical themed. They just look very basic and I don’t really have much help so I don’t know what exactly to do. I’ve posted my mountain terrain below so I can compare what I have been trying to strive for.

Tropical biomes tend to have a lot of vegetation so adding a few small trees, large rocks with some moss or some big bushes might sell it

Could change the color of terrain to better match the tropical color pallete.
Try using custom PBR materials too, play around with that.

Try making the mountains have sharper peaks as seen in the references.

This. It also looks like your lighting could be improved to reflect the environment, as well as the clouds, if that’s an option for your game.

1. You have a harsh texture overlay, let’s say you were probably using one of those at first and switched to the other; Grass. So try to paint those mountains grassy and rocky where it is required.

2. As you can see in the real-life image, the tropical mountain has the sort of bumps that make it harshly grounded, whistl you got smooth transition.

I made red lines over those areas for example. Try to add them rationally, not everywhere.

3. Add some foliage to the terrain, you cannot have plain terrain without any foliage if you’re looking for realism. Not requiered you to add trees, but sort of a small foliage type.
