How to make ROBLOX materials show on textures/surface appearance?

Since I can’t apply materials on a regular humanoid with or without clothing, I re-imported it as mesh parts and UV-mapped it to do that.

I’ve tried using surface appearance and a direct texture id in properties but nothing has come out of it.

I wish the ROBLOX engine did support this directly. There’s probably some obscure, hacky way of doing so, but as far as I know, surface appearances override texture and shading properties.
