How to make the best cartoony feel

I’m starting like a town and the theme is kind of cartoony, what’s the best way to do this?

Smooth Plastic?
Some Neon on the windows?

What do you think?

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Use Smooth Plastic for most of the game.
  • Use Blender to make stuff instead of Roblox studio. Then you can make like Adopt Me! Houses.
  • Make everything in a low-poly style.

My suggestion is for you to do low-poly or high-poly builds; As these will help give it a more “cartoony” vibe.

However, before building anything, I suggest looking up cartoon references for your structures: Cartoon houses has A LOT of textures added onto them, and a lot of uneven shapes for their buildings. Thus, looking at model references will help you understand what build is considered a “cartoony” feel off of your structures and models.

Low poly isn’t a style it just refers - means using a lowest number of polygons. I’m sure it’s used as flat shading textureless model from what I understand people normally get low poly wrong as they say it’s more of a style but it just means using a low amount of polygons.

If you were just looking how to accomplish a more cartoony look or feel, you could use a 3D software to make different models to import into studio if your referring to a cartoony build this would be done by using bright/ vibrant colors and use of the plastic materials.

Now if you’re wanting to use a software, it depends. You can work on cartoony builds by also using studio itself. Find the correct cartoony lighting to make the buildings colors stand out and cast that cartoony feel throughout the map (experiment instill you find the perfect lighting source).

Hey there! I’d like to help you out. Here are some suggestions:

  1. When you think of cartoony styles, or maybe even your favorite cartoons, what comes to mind? You can see exaggerated shapes, bright colors, and overall a pretty happy vibe. You can utilize that to think of some concepts and build!

  2. Use references! Using reference builds are a great way to get those gears in your brain running. You could check out some cartoony builds online, and see what you think, then utilize those aspects that make it seem “cartoony”, to build in that feel.

  3. Low-poly doesn’t necessarily mean cartoony. I’ve never really liked those neon windows, they seemed too bright and never fit the cartoony vibe in my opinion. There are even some detailed cartoony builds, which are basically the opposite of low poly.

I hoped this helped!

Cartoony styles generally have tons of colors mainly bright ones. So coloring is a huge step after making the model low poly.
