How to reduce shadows?

Using Shadow Map, shadows can become very dark and make it hard for the player to see their character. In my game, it is crucial that the player sees their character. How can I reduce the shadows without diminishing the quality of the surrounding lighted areas (i.e. the surrounding lighted areas already look good).

What I would reckon you try, I believe you can fix this by setting the ambient color to be brighter one optional thing to make it look better is also possibly setting ambient and outdoor ambient to pitch black, and setting the environment diffuse and environment specular values to 1, as this makes the skybox dictate the shading darkness, though that’s just how I generally handle it, this can be tweaked also using the ambient/outdoor ambient values as well.

You can increase the ShadowSoftness in Lighting.
