How to shade clothing in paint.net [For beginners]

Heyo! So I have a little tutorial for you new clothing designers! Everyone has always asked me, how do you shade? Well I’m about to tell you how to do so. its an argument that most people have wondered, does shading make your clothing better, or does it make it look trashy. Well it depends. if you use one of those horrible google png shading templates that we all tried to use when we first started designing, yes, it is obviously going to turn out bad. But on the other hand If you do the way that I am about to tell you, it will turn out wonderful and it will have a nice shade. for example this shirt that I have made, with shading, looks so much better. Blue vans off the wall shirt - Roblox

but on the other hand yes you can make shading look bad, and yes, you might be better off with out it.

my friend @ixArcher owns a clothing group, and she nearly never uses shading. it is all “pastel” clothing.

So it really all depends on your style that you design in.

so lets get onto the tutorial.

first off you will need to open paint.net (assuming you already have it)

this is a shading tutorial not a clothing tutorial, so i will assume you already have your shirt/pants done aside from shading. (before you make a design, this does NOT work with all black clothing.

i just made this quick little design in under a minute, i will not be uploading it, as its just an example, and its a horrible design and does not fit the theme for my group.

so to start off the tutorial, we will need to get the shapes tool. you will need to put the shape as a rectangle and on perimeter only. It should look like this
image

set the color to black

add a new layer and put it above the color layer but behind the background

image should look like this

set the brush width to 7
image

and begin making the rectangles in each of the parts of the template
image just like this
I personally like to start at the top of the template because it is easier to maneuver anyways do that for each of the parts of the top of the template

image it will look like this. now for the bottom.

set your brush width to 5

and do the same for the bottom. (outline the shapes of the arms/legs)

it should look like this
now for the part youve been waiting for, to make it have shade.

image click on effects, go to blurs, and then gaussian blur and then set it to whatever you would like, i like setting it to 39 when i am using white as the main color.

image this is the finished product

This is the comparison, obviously shading looks better in this scenario.

this is the end of the tutorial I hope this helped you and improved your designs! if this helped you, join my clothing group and send an ally request!

ah mb, i didnt know what to put it in

thanks man, it took me over an hour to write haha

I honestly just take shading from other people.

if you are looking to become a big designer, thats not the route to go. i would highly recommend changing your shading technique, you will get exposed some time around and your career will crash you need to make your own designs!

Not like I’ll become anything especially with the 100 ROBUX fee now.

you should try using photopea. It is photoshop but free.
