How to start as an Artist on Roblox I The basics to know about

Hey, Synth here.
This is a little course I made if you are looking to be a successful artist on the platform without experience. I might not have gone in depth but the lack of informations is inevitable. If you ever need an answer to a particular question, always feel free to reply down below or explore them around the internet. This document can update at any times.

> CHOOSING THE RIGHT JOB

The first thing you’ll ever think of is what you really want to do. Which would have to be genuinely based of your qualities. You can do one as well as multiple jobs depending on what you are interested into. Always remind the interest you are taking into a job, It can always help to keep being motivated: motivation is the undeniable key to everything. Don’t do something you don’t have real interest into, it just wont work. I myself have so much interest into graphic designs that I plan to use it in my real life.

Here are some of the jobs possible when being an artist.

  • Graphic Design (3D Render)
  • Graphic Design (Text, Logos Abstract Arts)
  • Music/Audio/Sound Producer
  • UI/UX Designer
  • Assets/Decals/Texture Creator
  • Terrain Artist
  • Vector Designer

> STARTING YOUR JOURNEY

Hope you could find the right job for you!
Now that you know what you are doing a little bit you will need to know the basics. First thing you would want to choose is the right programs/applications. They also depend on how suitable you consider them. You can look into a large variety of them but I would recommend using Blender as a GFX Designer, tons of tutorials are available on youtube. Some are even non GFX or Roblox related but can have an astonishing look if you mix them within your actual GFX. Opt for great looking interfaces. It always feels more compelling for your workflow. Take your time and don’t be afraid to always look for more informations. Twitter (Only use at 13 years old+!) could be a source of inspiration: Watching other people GFXS that end up giving you more ideas for your GFX. I would recommend to also do GFXS from times to times, this method will help you knowing more of the job and the programs you use: that is how you obtain experience.

> KEEPING WORKFLOW

Sustaining workflow is an important part of the process to fully become an Artist. An idea could be to work on multiples devices or monitors: this would be faster to look for resources and informations. Ex: You can have on one screen a sketch or other GFX inspiration while on the others your creation processing programs. A sketch is crucial if you ever need to make a logo for someone. Working from sketch makes all the beauty of being an Artist. Well I wouldn’t recommend making all assets just yet since you can take them from libraries but if you ever feel the need to.

> STANDING OUT FROM OTHERS

This might be the trickiest part. Clients likes a lot of things that can be the opposite of what you would think to be fine. You will need to do a lot of research if you ever want to be outstanding from others. You might just blow out as soon as you do it depending of your technique as some artist can be built different or just look for an original idea by yourself. Everything is possible while being original. Mixing up effects, Playing with settings of your program and use numerous applications for one GFX. You might ask: `

How to be sure someone likes your brand new idea?

Just simply get opinions, this can be done here by posting feedback on the DevForum or in Artistic communities: Posting your work to a social platform and watching it success grow (or fail miserably).

> SETTING PRICING

It seems obvious that you should always start low when you plan on selling your work. You need to make a good impression to your customers , even more if you are in beginning phase. You need to convince him to take your services and gain his trust.

So How to avoid being scammed in the process of gaining someone’s trust of your services in return?

Let’s say you are not too sure about a customer approach: He has bad spelling and doesn’t seem professional to work with. You would have to ask him for a pay progressively as you are doing his commision. Like that, you are sure he is willing to pay the correct amount needed and that he isn’t toxic. Make sure to always check transactions of him: transactions of your accounts can be viewed here https://www.roblox.com/My/Money.aspx#/#Summary_tab .

> GETTING CLIENTS / DOING A COMMISSION

So you are looking to get your first client. You could browse through any social platform and advertise your services if the platform/communities ever allow it. When you get a commission from someone you should always look promising to him. You don’t want to ruin the value of what you are doing right? Kindly speaks about what they needs and don’t let them rush you. As said before, you should also act professional as it’s an important factor to your order.

> EXPANDING YOUR RECOGNITION

After all of that you want more people to notice your work. In oder to make it happen and if you are old enough you will need to sign up in Artistic Websites where you will be able to upload your work. That is why I’ve made a list of different website you can visit!

Simple tasks could have a big impact on your success.

Please check your definition. GFX does not stands only for 3D rendered artworks. GFX in fact means Graphic Efects, or Graphic Design, wich pretty much includes all of these:

Now, yes, you can divide it in sections. But graphic design includes all of them.

Hi, I never said that GFX only means 3D Renders. I have organised them into sections so it’s makes more of a catch to eyes effect. I have also specified that those are based from qualities. Whatsoever I believe there are different kind of Graphic Design categories.
