How to use animated gifs on here?

Trying to upload a post to the What are you working on currently 2017 thread which contains some animated turntables of my latest works; but I notice that by dragging-and-dropping them into the post, they are impossible to open, and aren’t animated at all. Is there a way to fix this?

I’m not sure how to do actual gifs, but I can say that I highly recommend that you do not use gifs.

Videos are a much more efficient format and can be embedded just as easily. For users on slow internet connections, gifs can take a long time to load compared to videos. Videos also have neat playback controls.

You can upload your gifs or videos to Gfycat and it will automatically convert them to embeddable videos.

To embed a Gfycat link, just paste it in on its own line, like I did below:

https://gfycat.com/FixedFarawayGazelle

For a size comparison, the above gfy takes:

  • 4,700 KB as a high-quality gif
  • 397 KB as a standard-quality video (8.4% the size of the gif)
  • 2,200 KB as a high-quality video (46.8% the size of the gif)

In all cases this should be done in Forum Inception, as it is related to the devforum itself.

The url you get from Context Menu > copy [image|video] address (at the source) should have the necessary configurations to automatically embed:

I’m confused about what you’re talking about here.
