How to use Cursor to Code for You in Roblox Studio

Right before writing this post, I posted a feature request to include this functionality into the Roblox Studio client. To be proactive, I’m writing this post in addition to that to showcase how to use what I use in Roblox Studio.

As many of you know, the new OpenAI model, o3-mini, is trained on Roblox Studio. While it is locked behind a paywall, this system is actually cheaper than ChatGPT-4o while having true functionality.

For those of you who have not met me, my name’s Kyle. I’ve worked in Roblox development for over a decade and currently run a small AI firm. While some of you may doubt AI’s ability to work in Studio or may dislike it because of the removal of creative freedom, I believe that I’m more equipped than most of our community to showcase how this use case can be activated.

In my last post, I demonstrated a little tech demo that I whipped up using o3-mini; however, since then, I have begun implementing the coding assistant Cursor into my workflow.

Setting up.

Cursor is free, but the version of it I’m going to be demonstrating is the $200/yr plan. I’m not sponsored by the company in any way. This is simply what I use to optimize my workflow.

In the settings, you first want to enable o3-mini as a model and set up folders to mimic Roblox Studio’s coding environment.

Next, you want to provide the system with a full blown context for what your game / project is. I have mine saved as CONTEXT.md

At this point, all you need to do is press CTRL+L and prompt the AI with what you’d like it to create. Once you have filled out the prompt, simply set the system to o3-mini and press CTRL+Enter.

That’s it. That’s literally it. As Chef Gusteau once said, “Anyone can cook”, and this applies now more than ever to beginner game development. The system has data up through 2022 so if you’d like to implement a new feature, just provide extra context with an additional .md file. Good luck!

To clarify, I use this tool for bug fixing primarily. However, it is fully capable of coding with guidance and proper prompt engineering.
