How would I go about making a ''pick up item/viewing system'' for a story game?

Hey there. I’m trying to make a story-game highly influenced by the hit ‘‘Firewatch.’’ - I’m curious how to go about a key-feature of the game, which is the ability to pick up and view/rotate an item to ‘‘inspect’’ it further. If someone could link me to either a tutorial, or tell me about the best method to do this, it would be awesome. I appreciate it! What exactly do you want to achieve? Like do you want your players to click E to pick up an item?

Not exactly ‘‘pick it up’’ but more of inspecting it, like being able to rotate it with the mouse, and looking behind it, on the sides of it, etc.

This is pretty unique. I do think these are similar to placement systems, I recommend you to watch some of these and get the structure from it.
