How would i make this combat system "better"

After playtesting my game for a bit, i feel its pretty janky, and not that fluent.
It is my first time designing a melee combat system like this, so i have no idea how to improve on it.

The game currently has 3 moves:

  • Light Attacks (M1)
  • Block (M2)
  • Guard Break (R)

Im also planning on adding:

  • Heavy Attacks
  • Stamina
  • Skills for different weapons
  • Stances

I feel like adding more moves wouldn’t make it more fluent, but im not sure.

My goal is making combat fun and fluent.

You could try making the Sword Animation to attack from like sideways. For example samurais or…Anime. Anime references in this case would really benefit you, since these types of attacks are really often used. I don’t currently have any specific Anime suggestions which include this type of attack, but you could try looking for some. Overall, the current Animation is great! Good job! :happy3:

Damn…that video reference sure is pretty awesome tbh. Must have been pretty hard to remake
