How would i replicate this exact method of making a spotlight?

so, basically in this photo YourFriendZeal posted once in a discord post, he showed that he made a new spotlight tech he could use for his game

im trying to replicate his method, but im stuck on how the transparency is done.
i know fart a fact its;

  • NOT forcefield material
  • NOT decals, the mesh has its color set
  • NOT PBR, alpha mode runs horrible for gradients
  • NOT Beams, you can see the inside properly

Have you looked at vertex alphas? I’ve heard of them before but don’t have experience myself. This definitely looks like what he’s using here though, after I looked at this video
