So, a dilemma I’ve been having with one of my games is coming up with a way with making players keep coming back.
A rundown on my game, Capitalism ( a stock market / moneymaking simulator ), every ingame day the market opens and you try to make money off the stock market. In addition, there are jobs around the city you can perform, such as delivery jobs or working at a burger place. I’m also working on the criminal sector of the game too.
I’ve been trying to nail all the incentives to keep playing, like exotic cars, apartments you can buy, and so on. However, I keep getting nervous that I’m missing something crucial that could help. One of my friends joined and he’s like “so it all you do is stocks? its ok i guess”
So what can I do with the concept? I really don’t want to add guns, but I’m starting to run out of simple ideas and concepts for just an initial launch.
EDIT: I guess people are missing the point. The game isn’t only just stock, there are other things you can do in-game. The game is called ‘Capitalsim’, so it’s a game about making money.
What I’m asking for are ways to make money in-game as a means of keeping them coming back for more. Jailbreak and Mad City have robberies and heists that keep people coming back with the incentives for expensive cars and skins for them. I just need ideas in that manner.
I don’t know if there’s much you can do to improve it, stocks are stocks. I’m not sure what your target audience is, but I know that most people I play with wouldn’t find stocks very interesting. Adding guns might help, but people probably wouldn’t play your game for the sole purpose of earning a reward to use that they find more interesting.
Maybe make things like favours? As in there could be NPC’s around the map who need something done and will pay you for helping them. Apart from that I can’t think of much.
Stocks are a big mechanic in it, but it’s also not really the only mechanic. The main concept is the art of capitalism and making money. It’s the other mechanics that I’d like to have help with.
For example, one concept I had is once you make enough money you can purchase a business. It generates you money over time the more employees/upgrades you get (like a tycoon basically.)
TL;DR: Stocks not main target, making jobs/money making opportunities is the part needing brainstorming.
This is a very niche game and I’m not sure if many people may play it, not only that, people usually wanna play more objective type games and stock market may not be the one but this is an interesting type of game because it’s unique.
You could have objectives like what I mentioned earlier so that people would want to get that objective and keep playing for a reward.
You can also have a daily reward thing. This way, people will want to keep coming back to your game to get their rewards.
Some research on stock markets may help, like bull and bear markets, day trading, you can also replicate some dark times in the stock market history, you can read this book called the ascent of money to find out more.
You may also want to have some levels. Meaning that there are certain levels people can get if their money is high enough and with those new levels, you can unlock new things. You can make the highest level a Warren Buffett level because he is a well known investor.
You can teach some tips on the stock market(if you want) like when to invest, what is growth and value investing.
To answer your question about how to keep players returning, there are many tactics you can introduce to players to keep player retention. A daily reward or gift, a daily boost or powerup, and a streak bonus for how many days they return can do that.
Frequent updates can also make players return. Introducing apartments or houses in one update, and introducing exotic cars in the next would give players something new to look forward to.
As for your question on concept, stocks/capitalism games are in a very niche genre for Roblox. The concept alone likely won’t appeal to the mass majority of Roblox users.
I suggest focusing more on the capitalist concept rather than just stocks. A few suggestions you could add:
Businesses that players can purchase, manage, and employ workers.
Investments players can make. You can add an element of fun by giving players silly options to invest in. (Invest in the cotton candy industry or a tiger zoo?)
Upgradable homes. Players could buy run down properties and work to buy upgrades in their home to raise their home value. Additionally, you can include a buy/sell option for homes, so players could make a profit from renovating.
Net Worth Status. Players could have an overall level by their net worth. This could encourage players to buy assets that would gain profits rather than depreciating assets. (Like investing vs buying an exotic car.) There could be certain areas or zones designated for players with a certain net worth.
You could add daily bonuses to keep players coming back.
Also try adding ingame events such as “stockmarket crash” event, where money is easier to earn but things are more expensive.
Think outside the box, think more than game cosmetics and houses and think about what you would want if you were playing the game.
Try gathering feedback from your friends and see if they say something like “You know x would be cool”.
Add another currency which boosts up your stock levels that can only be obtainable from a week of concurrent gameplay (daily login for a week straight) or from gamepasses.
With your stocks, try making it expandable and able to create more and different businesses in-game as well as cars and homes if you want to go down that route.
