I am making a game similar to Doki Doki Literature Club, where the game portrays itself as a “dating simulator” so that you bond with the characters only to use this bond to turn the game into a psychological horror game. It’s obvious that this would be a 17+ game so I started looking into Roblox’s new policies for 17+ games to figure out how far I can take the romance part of the game. But after reading the policies, I have no idea what I can and can’t do.
As you can see in yellow, Roblox starts by saying that you can have “expressions of love and affection”, which I assume would be hugging and kissing, but then it goes on to what you can’t do, where the very first listed thing, highlighted in red, contradicts this. Like, what is considered a “flirtatious gesture”? Hugging? Kissing? I understand that the point goes on to say “or communication between users in a romantic context” So does this point only apply if it’s between users? Because theoretically, my game would only have these kinds of “gestures” between the player and an NPC.
Then, highlighted in blue, I don’t even understand what this is talking about. What is “unwanted flirtatious behavior”? “Unwanted” by who? The player? Because it’s hard to have a “dating simulator” if the player doesn’t want to experience “flirtatious behavior”. Would a simple “DO NOT PLAY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE FLIRTATIOUS BEHAVIOR” warning be enough?
Finally, in green, I just want to know how specific “suggestive clothing” is. Like, is seeing an NPC is underwear “suggestive”? Because, I mean, Roblox does allow to do this:
It almost sounds like to me that Roblox wrote their policies in such a way, where they can just take down anything they want, so I don’t know how far I can go with this game and/or if I should even continue this project.
