Scripting, Programming, whatever you want to call it; it’s something that you have to have a drive to do. It’s a trial and error game that doesn’t end until you stop doing it. If you don’t have the drive but want to learn certain parts of scripting; pace out what you want to learn and if that doesn’t work then I don’t think scripting is the right thing for you to do.

Advice

If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, don’t do it. It will take twice as long to do and feel like a chore. It will also hurt your mental state to some degree which you never want to do. There’s a lot of things we all want to do, there are some things our mind can’t get behind. If you have the perseverance then go full force and continue on, else; it may not be the right path for you.

Final Note

This post is technically off-topic, Scripting Support is for what the title proclaims, support with your scripting. If this effects your mental health, talk to your parents or doctors about it. Take care of yourself and never overdo it unless you’re having fun.

What I did was I tried to create a game and picked up and learnt the stuff I needed along the way by looking at the API. I feel youtube tutorials can be quite long and I don’t have the patience for them(when I do watch them though, I usually just fastforward straight to the code).

I started around late june this year but I already had programming experience before learning Lua so things were quite easy to pick up.

they do feal long and boring. ive been going off of tutorials. ill skip to the code and branch out more.

I had this problem too, I knew I should spend a little time learning, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. But today, I have to force myself away from scripting as to not overburn.

At first I was trying to learn scripting by just drilling the API into my head, watching youtube tutorials and all. I could only go on like that for a maximum of two weeks.

The next time I tried, I had a plan in mind: to actually start making something I’m excited about from what I’ve learnt. That excitement drove me to keep learning further. I wanted something that I could finish with beginner-level knowledge (in the end, I did not, but I had tons of fun), and I thought that a simulator would be perfect for that. So, I went on to make a simulator, I didn’t finish it, but it was loaaads of fun, and I built some good foundations.

So basically, what I wanted to say is, don’t stay in the tutorial stage for long, just get a basic understanding of how things work, and then try making something you’re excited about! You’ll see yourself becoming more motivated to come back to it.

So, what i do to prevent boring while learning from a youtube tutorial which is around 3 hours for 1 video, is just play simple game [fun and memorable game] while listening. Actually I only need to watch once to understand it, but that doesn’t mean i can replicate it back. I also enjoy listening english sound while playing game. I think i watch/listen to the video 4 to 5 times. Trust me, it work.

Learning scripting myself, I can relate.

I recommend starting with the basics. Never use Youtube tutorials if you need to get a script for something, because they just show you the script, and not how to do it. I recommend taking classes for it if you can, it really helps. Even though I am not an experienced scripter, I can guarantee you that about 99% of the scripting that I already know has come from taking coding classes.

Then again, everyone works differently. Some people like doing Youtube tutorials, and others like taking classes, etc. Whatever floats your boat!

Whenever you feel like you want to try something else(animation, photo editing, etc), always remember that in the grand scheme of learning something for roblox scripting is always the best option. Scripting by far will earn you the most money/robux(unless you are really, really talented at something else). Everyone wants to be that great scripter, and for good reason, being a scripter opens up other platforms, and this can help you greatly in the internet world, in this new day and age, programming is a skill everyone should have. Scripters are also the ones who can get games out there a lot easier than most. You could build a great map or have a great animation, or maybe have some snazzy ui design, but it is all useless for a game if there isn’t code. If you take the flip side, if you are a coder, while yes people probably wouldn’t like it a whole lot if you don’t have good designs with building and ui, etc, you at least have a game that people can play, and that is the important part, you can worry about design later.
