Do you that feeling when you look at your entire game’s buildings as a whole and go: I need to re-do this entire thing. It just doesn’t fit. Well, that is me as of right now. I’m really not sure what I should do and I’m running out of time which is keeping me in a dilemma. What should I do?
If this deadline is for somebody else, you could just try telling that person about your revelation and how you feel something could be improved with revision. That is often the case with most builders; we like to qualify and amend what we’ve built to add more detail, or in cases redo it completely. If they’re good clients then they should understand, since they are effectively buying you for your quality, not for your time. Unless they are buying you for your time, in which case they’ve really let themselves down because builders do require that time to go over what they’ve done and check things out. With some personalities, a rushed build is never good and always disheartening…
That’s all the advice I can think of, really.
I can’t tell you how many times I want to redo maps because I feel like I can do better. When I don’t have too much time though, instead of revamping the entire map I replace a few assets depending on what kind of map it is.
You could also get help from other builders if you know any. Good luck!
@Somnar It’s not for someone, but I do want to meet my own deadlines, so technically it is for someone - me? Anyway, regardless of that, your advice is still good and I think I may just re-do my builds just so that I can keep my motivation back up. Thanks!
@zen_it I currently don’t have much robux with me so I don’t think any builder will be there to help me (although I do wish I could get some help especially since I’m not very good at building). I guess I could replace a few assets, I haven’t done much though especially since I am rather slow in coming up with ideas and details for builds. Thanks for your suggestion!
If you have the building portion finished and still have other areas of the project you still need to complete, move away from the building and focus on the other more important tasks.
Minimal Viable Product should be your goal to start, and “done” is better than “perfect” when you need to prioritize tasks - after all, buildings that exist at least exist, while other features that don’t even exist yet still need to be made.
Prioritize your tasks, and you can should always return to building when you get to the polish phase anyways. Unless you’re in polish phase now… - then that answers your question.
I feel the same way some times. Try and mess with them, see if you can add some bricks or something, just to spice it up a bit.
I do this all the time in all aspects of developing. Scripting, UI, building. I’m remaking a game for the third time.
I must say, it really has helped me to bring my projects to their full potential. I’m amazed at what I’ve come up with remaking the same thing over and over again. Of course it’s annoying at times too.
I would just keep your current things and release your game/project as-is. If players don’t like it, you know what to improve. Otherwise you might never release it and just keep permanently working on it, which isn’t fun.
Feel free to DM me on discord if you ever need help with anything --zen#2486
@Aotrou I’m definitely nowhere near the polishing phase. My current game looks and feels more like me testing it out stuff than an actual functioning game. (If you were to go into the game without me telling you anything about the game, you’d probably not know what’s even going on.) I do understand that I should just get things completed, but I’m still not very sure if it’ll motivate me to keep going. To be honest, I hit my “Developer Low”(My definition: An extremely low point during game development that gets you thinking about what you are doing with your life) like a few days ago, thankfully, after reading all you guy’s helpful comments, I’m getting back up again. Thanks for your suggestion.
@r0cu I’m not very good at that. I’m also currently wondering if I should start using blender instead to make everything because I see a lot of difficulty making complicated stuff using parts. Thanks!
@Intended_Pun Well, maybe I should just release my game and fix things on the way.
Good point! Thanks for the suggestion.
@zen_it Gee, thanks. I’ll maybe try doing it myself first though, maybe until I reach my Breaking Point.
You should definitely start experimenting with blender, your work will get much more lively, and it really is amazing when you can add those nice edges to your work, that you can’t add in studio.
Hey there!
Well I would because I’m a very fast builder. But if it were small I would have someone on the same page help me. What I mean by the same page I mean like think the same and do the same. Also if you don’t have a deadline or a deadline that’s coming up in a time period that you cannot get the builds done I would start on the builds then if I am running out of time ask another builder. Hope this helped. I don’t really want to speak for you so I just states what I would do. From John.
Hey, I would just redo what you think is bad/wrong. If you think it’s bad most likely others will think it’s bad. Always have the best and don’t be lazy. Hard work pays off you got this
@r0cu I see… I do agree too, especially since some edges cannot be made in studio very easily. I’m not very experienced with poly counts as I have not experienced the lag from too many of such polys so I’m slightly cautious of what I make in Blender. Maybe I’ll have to make some builds with parts and some builds with meshes? Thanks for your reply!
@Strongjohnfgamer Good idea. your method makes it much more efficient. The builds are not considered very small though so it would probably take much more time to complete and work with someone else. I may put this into practice when I am really rushing for time. Thanks for you suggestion!
@Existencez I’m actually slightly more supportive of your opinion. Redoing can also drive my motivation up. While I have loads of other things to do, maybe I’ll just re-do those that I feel really need a make-over. Thanks!
You can always un-subdivide your meshes if you feel the need to. (To lower the tri count if it’s over roblox studio limit.) There’s a bunch of features in blender, so you should really get going mate!
